We want people who have grit! What’s grit? People who have grit have perseverance and passion.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.” - Ecclesiastes 9:10 NKJV
Angela Duckworth, in her book, “Grit”, describes grit as the one characteristic that distinguishes the successful from the unsuccessful. Grit is the combination of perseverance and passion. Perseverance is overcoming setbacks, working hard, and finishing things rather than giving up.
Passion is conviction and desire to reach the goal. Perseverance is the ability to adhere to a goal over the long term and maintain your interest level.
It takes passion and grit…
Some people persevere, and some people have passion. People with perseverance are responsible, organized, persistent, goal-oriented, and self-controlled. But people with grit have both perseverance and passion. They don’t sway. They stick with it.
Passion is the secret sauce, not emotion. Passion (rooted in interest, practice, purpose, and hope) drives grit. It’s a commitment to be consistent to your goals.
